Perseverance What if you could see yourself exploring amazing new places in the Universe, but you were trapped inside a rotting body? Stephen Hawking’s birthday is “January 8”. (Mcdaniel, 21). Frank Hawking, his eccentric father, and Isobel grew him up. Stephen began his life as a strange and unique child. Stephen grew up to be a genius who understood things that few others could. Amytrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a disease which causes physical damage to the brain and body, crippled him. This disease is a degenerative condition that causes your muscles and bones to break down. Stephen Hawkings quirky childhood, background, as well as his ability to deal and adapt with disabilities, make him a scientific leader.

Stephen attended Westminster when he was 10 years old. Stephen attended a local school, St. Albans. Stephen’s jabbering fit often made the students afraid. Stephen’s hysterical fits caused him to have a lower average grade in his class. He became very intelligent in the following years. The teachers began calling him “bright boy” at this time (White, Gribbin 9). Stephen went to Oxford University for Cosmology. It wasn’t an easy decision. Stephen and father would often argue about what course Stephen should take (White & Griffin 41).

Stephen became a respected scientist after he graduated college. Stephen has been at the forefront of science for many years. Stephen was a leader in the field of knowledge even before he started his career. Stephen knew that he was a lazily-behaved student in college, but his professors and he both knew he had innate intelligence. Stephen’s tutorial group was led by him, as he completed nine of the problems that they (6 students) could only do after a long time (White Gribbin and Gribbin48). Stephen went into depression when he received a diagnosis of amytrophic left sclerosis. Stephen’s body was expected to be destroyed by the disease in just two or three years. But he has persisted. Stephen’s courage and perseverance led to him receiving many honorary awards, such as the Companion of Honor and CBE in 1989. Stephen Hawking had a friend who once asked “How is it that a person with a progressive, wasting condition has overcome the obstacles and fought through them” (White Gribbin 4). Stephen Hawking s first great achievement was General Relativity with Quantum Theory.

Stephen authored a later book, A Brief History of Time. It was published in 1988. He then toured the globe giving lectures after he had finished his book. He began writing and researching a second novel in the nineties. Stephen Hawkings Universe is the title of his 1997 second book. Stephen is currently on a world tour to discuss his new book, and talk about the discoveries he has made. His childhood, history, and ability of dealing with disability makes him the leader we have today. Stephen Hawkings will probably write another book, or develop a new theory to further his knowledge about the universe. His knowledge may be able to help him solve many mysteries of the universe. Stephens knowledge goes beyond that of the average person. Stephens’s knowledge is beyond the comprehension of the average person.
